The Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center is open from 8-11 a.m., the third Saturday of every month and from 2:30-4:30 p.m., every Wednesday, for residents of the seven Wachusett towns: Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston. Bulk items, electronics and recycling will be collected on those days. West Boylston Boy Scouts will collect returnable bottles and cans. Holden Explorers will collect cell phones and printer cartridges. The Scouts and Explorers would appreciate your support.
The Center is provided by WachusettEarthday, the state Department of Conservation and Recreation and the seven Wachusett towns.
The Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center will hold a Household Hazardous Products Collection (paints and chemicals, electronics and recycling/reuse items), 8-11 a.m., Saturday, November 19.
Items which will be collected for a fee:
Paints and chemicals - $4/liquid gallon or $4/dry pound
Computer Monitors - $3 per monitor
TVs - $10 each
Wood console and extra large TV's - $15 each
Large appliances and metal machines including washers, dryers, stoves, hot water heaters and snow blowers, riding mowers, swing sets or other scrap metal - $5 each
Small appliances including lawn mowers, microwaves and small chairs - $2 each
Fire extinguishers - $6
Items with refrigerants such as refrigerators, dehumidifiers, freezers or air conditioners - $10 each
Furniture, rugs (10' x 12' size of wall to wall carpet), toilets, sinks, mattresses, box springs, large children's toys, outdoor furniture - $5 each
Sleeper couches - $10 each
Household project debris such as wood, bricks, concrete, wallboard - $30/cubic yard
Car Tires - $2 per tire with or without rims
Truck Tires (19-22" with or without rims) - $20 each
Extra large equipment tires - $20+ each
Propane Tanks - $3 per 20 pound regular tank, $1 small stove tank, $30 per 100 pound tank
Items accepted with no fee:
General recycling of paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, separated #6 styrofoam, metal cans, returnable bottles and cans, all batteries, mercury thermostats, thermometers, fluourescent tubes, bicycles, clothing, books, linens and small household goods (in good condition), electronics and computer parts (except monitors, which have a fee)
Reusable furniture and applicances: Each large appliance or furniture item costs $5 for disposal. The Center accepts bicycles to be passed onto children and families in need.
The Center is closed on days when the Wachusett Regional School District schools are closed due to inclement weather.
Wachusett Earthday's other location, the Wachusett Recycled Resource Center, closed its doors in July.
Wachusett Earthday is raising funds for the new Recycling Center building on Raymond Huntington Highway. All donations are welcome at Wachusett Earthday, Box 593, Holden, MA 01520. Individual donors to Wachusett Earthday and a Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Partnership Grant have already contributed $80,000 toward the building. The total cost of the building is anticipated at $300,000. The new building was planned as part of the regional collection center. Reuse and swap of many products will be available when the building is completed.
