WAYS TO KEEP YOUR COOL...........And Save Money Too!
Here are some low cost – no cost energy saving ideas for you.
Setting the air conditioner just a few degrees higher
You can save 6 to 8 percent of cooling costs for each degree set above 78, and still be comfortable. Clean your air filters, fresh air intakes, supply vents, and return grills. Dust and dirt cause your air conditioning unit to work harder and use more energy. Keep lamps or TV's away from the air conditioner thermostat. The heat they generate will cause your air conditioner to operate longer, running up bills unnecessarily.
Get the most efficient use from your clothes washer, dryer or dishwasher
Use these appliances only when you have a full load. For clothes washing use
cold or warm water, and keep the lint filter clean in your dryer. Try short cycles
in the dishwasher for everything but the dirtiest dishes.
Reduce the cooling load
Shut the drapes on the east and west windows.
Reducing Air Leaks
Change air filters to sealing ducts. Inadequate insulation and air leakage are the
leading causes of energy waste in most homes.
Turn off the Juice when not in use
Always turn off lights that are not needed and keep lamps and fixtures clean. Computers, home entertainment products and small appliances draw an idle electrical current even after they have been shut off. Using a powerstrip allows multiple devices to be plugged into one unit, rather than having to unplug multiple devices, you only need to unplug (and plug back in) the power strip in this case making it a much easier process.
Use your appliance wisely
Save energy by putting dishes in the dishwasher during the day and turning it on only once in the evening when it is cooler. Do full loads when you run washers, dryers, and dishwashers. Between 80 and 85 percent of the energy used to wash clothes comes from heating the water. Using warm or cool water instead of hot water will save money and energy and get clothes just as clean.
