Why do the lights go out so often?
It seems as though recently the electric power “has been going out every time you turn around.”

Actually there are a number of reasons why.

Tree limbs can take down power lines.
Squirrels run along the lines and sometimes conductor themselves by making a shorter path between the line and a transformer.
The normal failure of mechanical equipment. All equipment has a failure rate.
Vehicle accidents can result in poles being damaged and lines or transformers being damaged.
Electrical storms can damage electrical equipment and poles

What is being done?

Continue tree trimming program
Install Squirrel guards where appropriate
Distribution System Maintenance- There are literally hundreds of thousands of parts that make up the electrical distribution system. Maintenance, upgrades and revamping projects are continuing on a constant basis
Accidents and weather damage can not be totally prevented but proper maintenance helps to keep problems to a minimum
