Why do the lights go out so often?
 |
 |
It seems as though recently the electric power “has been going out every time you turn around.”
Actually there are a number of reasons why.
• |
Tree limbs can take down power lines. |
• |
Squirrels run along the lines and sometimes conductor themselves by making a shorter path between the line and a transformer. |
• |
The normal failure of mechanical equipment. All equipment has a failure rate. |
• |
Vehicle accidents can result in poles being damaged and lines or transformers being damaged. |
• |
Electrical storms can damage electrical equipment and poles |
What is being done?
• |
Continue tree trimming program |
• |
Install Squirrel guards where appropriate |
• |
Distribution System Maintenance- There are literally hundreds of thousands of parts that make up the electrical distribution system. Maintenance, upgrades and revamping projects are continuing on a constant basis |
• |
Accidents and weather damage can not be totally prevented but proper maintenance helps to keep problems to a minimum |
