Powerful Projects-
HMLD works to save you money on energy
HMLD has recently joined Phase II of Special Project 2006A through MMWEC to design a new state of the art power plant on the present site occupied by the Stony Brook Energy Station. The new plant would be a combined cycle gas/oil burning plant. Like the StonyBrook facilities before it, the new plant will employ cutting edge technology to optimize both fuel economy and air quality.
Berkshire Wind is a wind facility still on the drawing board for Western Massachusetts. Holden has joined a group of Municipal Utilities that have agreed to buy power from the project were it to become operational. This assurance should help the developer to secure financing to build the project. Other hurdles still need to be overcome by the developer in order to proceed with the project. Holden will continue to look for opportunities that support alternative energy and economics for our rate payers.
Holden and the City of Worcester have participated in the Demand Response Program developed by the New England (ISO) Independent System Operator, to use local deferred loads to respond to periods of high demand in the region. This worthwhile program helps to ensure that the New England region can respond to shortages of capacity and maintain system integrity.
