Energy Saving Tips on Heat Pumps
Printer-Friendly Version
INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY OF YOUR HEAT PUMP AND LOWER YOUR UTILITY BILL BY FOLLOWING THESE FEW GUIDELINES
Insulate walls and ceilings well.
Tape and insulate ducts.
Insulate suction lines (these are tubes that run to the outside unit).
Make sure the suction line is
hot
when the unit is supposed to be heating and
cool
when it is supposed to be cooling.
Clean the filters often (every month).
Keep the blower clean.
Keep the condenser (outside unit) clean and oiled. Clear away leaves and debris; clean coils monthly
Make sure all objects, debris, plants, shrubs, snow, etc., are at least two feet from the outside unit. This insures proper airflow.
Do NOT attempt to service a heat pump yourself. Call a certified dealer,
and
have your unit serviced at the beginning of each heating/cooling season.
Keep furniture away from heating/cooling vents; making sure vents are open and unobstructed.
Close windows and doors when heating and cooling.
Do not adjust your thermostat. If you do, adjust one or two degrees at a time. Wait for each degree to recover before turning to the next degree.
Use a humidifier during the winter.
