Introducing the New Bullard Street Substation
The HMLD has constructed a new substation off Bullard Street. This project has been in the planning stages for months and finally all the work has been completed.
Construction started in Mid-January and continued for several months. Footings and foundations were poured and structures were built.
The transformers were moved from the Chaffins Substation on Main Street to the Bullard Street site.
The “big move” was done on a weekend as not to interrupt and back up traffic. Several lines
had to be raised along the route.
The Switch House, which was built in St. Louis Mo., was delivered in two pieces and set on its foundation.
After a lot of team work, the substation was connected to the electric grid.
Before the station could be put “online” several weeks of testing occurred. On October 2, 2007, after months of long hard work, the HMLD celebrated their new substation with a grand opening ceremony.
The HMLD would like to thank everyone involved with this extensive project and we are proud to be a public power community.
