Town of Holden Now on Facebook
The Town of Holden has officially launched its Facebook page. The page will include the weekly notifications of community events, news, announcements, “Frequently Asked Questions” from our major town departments and photos. The Town will update its Facebook page during emergencies. Check us out on Facebook!
Best of Friends Annual Fair, Nov. 5
The Friends of the Council on Aging will hold its Best of Friends Annual Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, November 5 at the Senior Center, 1130 Main Street. Come check out the professional crafters, our senior crafters and the bake table. Lunch may be purchased at the Fair. Admission is free; however, please bring one non-perishable item to donate to the Wachusett Food Pantry. A collection box for these items will be located in the entryway to the Center.
Composting/Brush Chipping Event, Nov. 5
The Department of Public Works will host fall composting events on: Saturday, November 5, 12 and 19; and on Friday, November 11. These events run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and are for Holden residents, only. Proof of residency will be required. For more information, please visit www.holdenma.gov.
Rtes. 31 and 122A Drainage Repairs, Nov. 7
Residents and motorists are advised that MassHighway crews will be making drainage repairs at the intersection of Rtes. 31 and 122A at 8 p.m., Monday, November 7. Police details will be on scene to assist with traffic.
Unipay Online Payment System
The company that provides the Town’s online payment system is now accepting VISA credit and debit cards for payment of tax bills, only. VISA credit card payments for tax bills will be subject to the same convenience fee currently charged for Mastercard and Discover. VISA debit card payments for tax bills will be charged a fixed rate of $3.95 per transaction.
Nationwide Test of Emergency Broadcast Alert System, Nov. 9
At 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will take place. The test could last up to 3 minutes.
In the event of a local emergency, notification to residents would be through our new CodeRed system, a news alert through our website, our Facebook page, and local radio stations.
Those residents, or family members of residents, who wish to be notified during emergencies should please sign up for CodeRed on our homepage www.holdenma.gov. More than 300 new subscribers enrolled following the October 30 snow and power failure event.
Holden Police Offering RAD Class for Women, Nov. 9
The Holden Police Department is offering a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course starting Wednesday, November 9. For more information about times, cost and about the program, please visit www.holdenma.gov.
Bailey Road Railroad Crossing Replacement, Nov. 11
Bailey Road will be closed Friday, November 11 so the Providence and Worcester Railroad can replace the railroad ties and pave the road. Work will begin at 6 a.m. that day. The road will be closed to through traffic until the afternoon of Monday, November 14. There is no school on Friday, November 11, due to the Veterans’ Day holiday. Buses will be rerouted on Monday. Residents should seek alternate routes during that weekend.
