12:00 - 5:00p.m.**
OPEN FOR SEASON - JUNE 24

SUMMER PARK ADMISSION:
Recreation passes are required for admission to the pool, Eagle Lake, tennis courts, and to participate in all instructional programs.  Passes must be purchased prior to registering for any programs.
If you are planning to enroll your child in ANY class this summer, please purchase your passes in advance of the registrations.  Passes can be purchased in the Recreation office (175 Highland St., Holden) daily between 9:00a.m. and 3:30p.m.  As an added convenience, on Thursday May 8, the office will be open from 4:30 – 7:00p.m. allowing you to purchase passes prior to the registrations.
Passes will also be available at the pool and lake office after opening day.

COSTS:
HOLDEN RESIDENT passes can be purchased at a cost of $25.00 per person, with a maximum family fee of  $90.00.  (Family members residing year-round at the same address).  Infants under age 12 months do not need a pass unless they are participating in a program.
HOLDEN SENIOR passes are $15.00 each (age 65 or older).
SOLD OUT ~ OUT-of-TOWN passes are $75.00 per person ~ SOLD OUT
DAILY passes are $5.00 for Holden residents and $10.00 for non-residents.
REPLACEMENT cost for a lost pass is $15.00 for residents and $65.00 for non-residents.

*Passes must be visibly WORN in order to gain entry to the pool.*

REGISTRATION DATES:
Registration will be held in the Senior Center, 1130 Main St. Holden on:
•Saturday, May 10 from 9 – noon, (HOLDEN residents only)
•Sunday, May 18 from 11:00a.m. – 1:00p.m.
Registration will also be held in the Recreation office, 175 Highland St. Holden on:
•Wednesday, June 4 from 11:00a.m. – 2:00p.m.
•Wednesday, June 11 from 11:00a.m. – 2:00p.m.

A passive recreation site that has a lodge, pavilion, rest rooms, picnic area, trails, streams and a pond.  The area is available to rent and makes a wonderful place for family or business outings.  To inquire about renting the facilities, call the Recreation Director at 508-829-0263.

REGISTRATION POLICY:
All programs are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.  The Recreation Director reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes based on the interest level.  Registration may be limited.  Late registrations will be accepted based on available space.

REFUND POLICY:
•Recreation Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable.
•Because of the popularity of the Half Day Programs, no refunds will be issued.
•50% refund for withdrawal before the second class meeting.  No refunds will be issued after the second class.

RECREATION DEPARTMENT POLICY:
•The Recreation Director and lifeguards have the authority to confiscate any Recreation pass that is misused.  The Director, lifeguards and staff have the authority to ask patrons to leave the premises if rules are not followed appropriately.  It is up to the discretion of the Director, if and when, the pass is returned.  
•Participation in all Recreation Department programs is at the registrant’s own risk.
•All children at the recreation facilities should be there under the supervision of an adult.
•Patrons should communicate any concerns to the Recreation Director or Head Guard.
•Staff will not escort children from one class to another, unless the child is enrolled in either the Half Day or All Day Programs.
•In inclement weather, the pool and Eagle Lake will open at the discretion of the Recreation Director.  When thunder and lightning are evident, no one will be allowed in the water until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder (as recommended by the American Red Cross).
•Classes may be canceled due to the weather. Every effort will be made not to cancel.

LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM

Instruction in this standardized, national swim program will place emphasis on the learning of progressive skills, and testing for Red Cross certification.  During the first two days of swim lessons, instructors will assess each child’s skill level.  Children may be moved to a different level after the skill level evaluation, to place them in a class that will best fit their needs.  Instructors are available to confer with parents regarding recommendations.

Special Aquatic Programs:

•WSI AIDE CERTIFICATION:
Must be 11 years old and have completed Level 5.
Should be able to swim all strokes and one mile in deep water.
Offered Sessions 1 and 2 only.  9:00 – 10:00a.m.       Cost:  $30.00

•EMERGENCY WATER SAFETY:
Must have completed Level 6.
This class practices lifeguarding skills.
Offered Sessions 1 and 2 only.  9:00 – 10:00a.m.       Cost:  $30.00

•SATURDAY SWIM classes are available for levels 1B, 2A, 2B and 2C.  All class times are 10:30 - 11:00.  Classes begin June 28 and run through August 9.
Cost:  $25.00 for 7 meetings, all levels.

•SWIM TEAM:
Have fun swimming with the Holden Harpoons Swim Team.  Swim team members must be a Level 2C swimmer.  Practices are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 – 6:30p.m.  Swim meets are with Worcester County summer recreation leagues.   Practice begins Wednesday, June 25.

ALL DAY PROGRAM:

Children of working parents can now take advantage of our All Day Summer Program at Dawson School.  Program time is from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. If parents require an earlier drop–off time, please call the Recreation Department at 508-829-0263 so that arrangements can be made.  There is an additional fee for this service. The All Day Program will include arts & crafts, games, “special” weeks, outdoor activities, swimming lessons during weeks when classes are in session, and free swim time at the Holden Pool.  Children need to bring a lunch, but a morning snack and drink will be provided.  Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack for the afternoon, or they may purchase refreshments from the “snack shack” at the pool.
Children will spend most afternoons at the pool, weather permitting, and return to Dawson School by 4:30 p.m. to prepare for parent pick-up.  On rainy days, the program will remain at the school.

Children must be entering the first grade in order to attend this program.

The All Day Program is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care.

SPECIAL NOTE:  First priority is given to children who have been registered in the Before/After School programs at the elementary schools.  There may only be limited spaces available at the time of registration.

OTHER PROGRAMS:

COUNSELOR – IN – TRAINING:
*(CIT Program for teens)
Sessions 1, 2 and 3
This program is offered to teens, aged 13 – 15, who would like to volunteer working in a recreational setting.  Participants will receive a recreation pass in return for their service.  They will receive hands–on experience working with children.  Choices for placement includes swim lessons, tennis, half–day, arts & crafts, drama, field sports or the basketball program.  CIT’s are limited to registering for 1 session.
*Holden residents only.

GOLF LESSONS:
Holden Hills Country Club golf pro, Jeff Bailey, is offering Basic Beginner Junior Golf lessons to boys and girls aged 8 – 14 on Mondays beginning July 7 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the golf course.  The program runs for 5 weeks, and registration is limited.
COST:  $90.00 for 5 weeks, which includes supplies.

DROP-IN SOCCER:
Meet on the Light Department field on Sundays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. – dark beginning July 9.  Purely recreational!  Families are encouraged to attend.
COST:  No charge

SPLASH PARTIES at the Pool:
Rental involves the use of ONE POOL ONLY.  You must have a Recreation pass in order to reserve a pool.  Please specify when reserving a date which pool you will be renting.  You can not reserve more than 1 date at a time.
COST:  $75.00 for up to 20 people, and $25.00 for every additional 10.

BUS TRIP:  
6th Annual New York City Bus Trip:  Saturday, December 6.
If you are interested in this trip, please call the Recreation office at 508-829-0263 to reserve a seat. COST: TBD

RECREATION COMMITTEE:
If you are a Holden resident and a registered voter, and would like to serve on a committee, there are openings on the Recreation Committee.  Please contact the Town Manager's office or the Recreation office and request a "do-something" questionnaire.


POOL RULES:

•All passes must be visibly worn
•No running on the pool deck
•Entry into the lap pool is via the diving board or stairs
•Ladders are for exiting the pool only
•No ball playing on the pool grounds
•No flotation devices of any kind are allowed
•All children not potty trained, must wear clean approved swim diapers
•No conversing with life guards while they are on stand
•No toys are allowed in the pools
•You must be able to swim 1 length of the lap pool to use this pool
•No glass bottles are allowed
•Inserting stakes into the ground for umbrellas, tents, etc. is not permitted


Adult swim times are 3:00 - 3:15 and 5:00 - 5:15 daily, and at the discretion of the head guard or recreation director.



PLEASE REGISTER EARLY!
All programs require a high level of coordination, including facility scheduling, staffing and purchasing of supplies.  Nothing ruins a recreation program faster than residents who wait until the last minute to register.  There is a point when a program must be canceled or modified.                   




Participating in recreational activities may cause high levels of laughter and fun, become habit-forming, and result in unforgettable experiences and friendships.
