BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
*The Wachusett Regional School District calendar includes a number of early release days for the 2008 - 2009 school year. The After School Programs will NOT be held on those afternoons.
The Before/After School Programs are offered to all children in grades K-5 at Dawson, Davis Hill and Mayo Schools. The morning program runs from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. The afternoon program operates from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. The ratio of staff to children is at least 1:13. Juice will be provided to all children in the morning. Juice and snacks will be provided in the afternoon. The Department of Early Education and Care licenses these programs.
Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis; however, children requiring care 5 days/week will be given priority. Children must enroll for a minimum of 2 days/week, if part-time care becomes available.
Payment is due on the Friday prior to the week attending. Failure to pay will result in the removal of your child/children from the Program.

ADULT CLASSES
SCRAP BOOKING CLASSES
The Holden Recreation Department will be offering a series of Scrap booking classes throughout the year. We are pleased to announce the first two in the series:
Holiday Card Classes- During this 2-hour workshop participants will make 6 cards gleaming with shimmering colors. Participants will stamp, scrap, glitter and emboss the images for an added luxurious touch. Whether you've never embossed or are a seasoned pro, this is the workshop to take if you want to create elegant holiday cards! The workshops will be held at the Holden Recreation office, located at 175 Highland Street, on Wednesday, November 5th, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m.. Participants should only sign up for one 2-hour class. The fee is $15.00 per person and all materials are included. You may bring your own tools or share with the instructor. Pre-registration is required.
Handmade Holiday Gifts Classes- During this 2-hour workshop participants will put together 3 gifts that will WOW the recipients! Participants will make these unique gifts with scrap booking tools and materials. The workshops will be held at the Holden Recreation office, located at 175 Highland Street, on Wednesday, October 29th , from 10 a.m. to noon and from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m.. Participants should only sign up for one 2-hour class. The fee is $25.00 per person and all materials are included. You may bring your own tools or share with the instructor. Pre-registration is required.
STRESS REDUCTION CLASS- Stress Reduction Class beginning Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Light Department Community Room, 1 Holden St. This class is designed to assist you in breathing techniques, relaxation response, guided imagery and healing meditations. You will be able to connect more fully with the present moment and find your unique inner resources for coping, healing and growth. This 45-minute class. Cost: $50.00 for a 6-week session.
QUILTING CLASS - Participants will make a table runner for their holiday décor or as a hostess gift. The design used is Four Across and the project will be completed in the 2-hour class. Detailed fabric requirements and preliminary cutting instructions will be provided post-registration. Basic sewing skills are necessary. Quilters will need to bring a machine. The class will meet on Saturday, October 25 from 10 AM to noon at the Holden Recreation office, located at 175 Highland Street. Pre-registration is required and must be done so by October 10. Cost: $35.00
MEN’S BASKETBALL - Every Thursday night from 8:00 – 10:00 at Mayo School starting September 11. Program will run through May 2009.
Cost: $20.00 every ten weeks, or $3.00 per night (drop – in rate.)
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL - Every Wednesday night through September from 7:15 – 9:00 at Mountview Middle School.
October Women's Volleyball will return to Thursday eveings from 7:15-9:00 at Mountview Middle School. Program will run through May 2009.
Cost: $20.00 every ten weeks, or $3.00 per night (drop – in rate.)
YOGA - Beginning Tuesday September 9, from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. and/or Thursday September 11, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the Holden Municipal Light Department Community Room, 1 Holden St. Classes will run in eight-week sessions, and are taught by a certified instructor. Participants should bring a mat. Pre-registration is required.
Cost: 8 weeks @ $60.00 for 1 morning/week, or $120.00 for both.
KICKBOXING - Back by popular demand! This class provides the participant with a total body workout by increasing stamina, flexibility and strength. This 6-week class will be held at Wachusett Regional High School in Dance Room G106, from 7:30 - 8:30 on Tuesday evenings beginning September 16.
Cost: $50.00 for the 6-week session.
3CP/Yo – This 6-week class is designed to burn fat, release stress and body sculpt. 3CP/Yo is the perfect exercise program for all. 20 minutes of fat burning, easy to follow Cardio exercises, followed by 20 minutes of Pilate's core strengthening, and ending with 20 minutes of Yoga's peaceful stretch and meditation. The classes will meet Tuesdays beginning September 16 and Thursdays beginning September 18 at Mayo School from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. You can register for one night/week or both evenings.
Cost: $50.00 for 1 evening or $100.00 for both.
LATIN DANCERSIZE – This 6-week fitness class combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves which creates an exciting and effective fitness program. This beginner class is easy and fun to do. The class meets on Tuesday evenings beginning September 16, at Wachusett Regional High School in Dance Room G106, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
Cost: $50.00 for the 6-week session.
ELECTRONIC PIANO: BEGINNER II- This class is the normal progression after the beginner class. Participants should have a basic knowledge of reading music and forming chords. A keyboard is not required. This 6-week class, offered on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Holden Recreation office, located at 175 Highland Street, begins October 2nd. Students will be required to purchase a book from the instructor on the first night of the class. Pre-registration is required.

NEW YORK CITY –7th Annual bus trip to New York City. Trip is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2008. The bus will leave from Dawson Recreation Area parking lot at 6:30 a.m. You will have the opportunity to spend the day shopping, sightseeing, or visiting museums. The bus leaves NYC at 6:00 p.m., and returns home at approximately 11:00 p.m. Call and reserve a seat!

UPCOMING WINTER – FAMILY PROGRAMS
*SKI / SNOWBOARD LESSONS – at Ward Hill in Shrewsbury, Ma. The Recreation Department has secured Monday evenings for skiing and snowboarding lessons beginning in January 2009. Participants must be at least six years of age. Equipment can be rented. Registration ends December 1, 2008

SANTA’S ARRIVAL TO TOWN – Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Join the Recreation Committee in welcoming Santa to Town Hall. Refreshments will be available in the First Congregational Church Hall after each child has the opportunity to visit with Santa.
RENTALS
TROUT BROOK – a passive recreation site with a pavilion and an A-frame lodge, complete with rest room facilities and kitchen. Several miles of nature trails. Fee varies.
FIELD PERMITS – available only through the Recreation Department. Priority is given to Holden Youth Sports Leagues.

3. Registrations may be limited due to the subject matter and recommendations of the
class instructor.
4. The Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes based
on the interest level.
5. Late registrations will be accepted based on available space.
6. Checks should be made payable to Holden Recreation.
REFUND POLICY
50% refund for withdrawal anytime before the second class meeting. No refunds will be issued after the second class.
