The Planning Board received 8 Special Permit/Site Plan applications in 2002. The Board approved an addition and the construction of practice fields at Wachusett Regional High School. The Board also approved an application for Merchant Tire Alignment to relocate in the former site of the Holden Municipal Light Building Located at 94 Reservoir Street. Updates to the current building and the construction of a new structure were approved. The Planning Board approved the construction of two common driveways, as permitted in a new Zoning By-Law adopted at Town Meeting in May of 2002.
Both of the common driveways were located on Sterling Road and greatly decreased negative impacts to wetlands. Special Permit/ Site Plan Review was approved for the Holden
Town Pool located at Dawson Recreation Fields on Salisbury Street. The new site plan includes the construction of a pool, a new recreational facility and increased screening. The Big Y Supermarket located at 160 Reservoir Street was granted a Special Permit/Site Plan approval in October to expand into existing retail space, change the façade of the building and conduct improvements to the parking lot.
A Special Permit/Site Plan application was submitted for a Retirement Community located on Newell Road and will be scheduled for a public hearing sometime in 2003.
