Q. Does the Town reimburse for damaged mailboxes?
A. Yes, up to $40 with a receipt.
Q. Does the Town plow sidewalks?
A. Yes, only within the area where children walk to school. Once the streets are completely plowed, then the DPW begins clearing the sidewalks.
Q. Is there a yard waste disposal program in town?
A. Yes, there is a compost facility on River Road at the old landfill for leaves and grass clippings. Brush chipping is done at the Adams Road DPW facility for branches over one-half inch and less than 6 inches in diameter. There are approximately four Saturday composting/brush-chipping events in the spring; one Saturday event/month in the summer; and five Saturday events in the fall. Dates will be posted on www.holdenma.gov.
Q. Does the Town mow the edges of the road?
A. The Town conducts roadside mowing on a continuous basis throughout the summer and fall.
Q. Do you need to be a town resident to buy a plot at Grove Cemetery?
A. No, you do not have to be a town resident.
Q. Is Trout Brook open to the public?
A. Yes and it is available for rental for functions. There is a lodge with a kitchen available.
Q. Does the Town maintain Main Street?
A. No, it is maintained by the Mass Department of Transportation, (508) 929-3800.
Q. When is my road going to be plowed?
A. The DPW’s primary goal is to ensure that all the maintained roadways are promptly cleared and sanded/salted as quickly and safely as possible following a storm event.
Q. When will my street be swept?
A. The DPW begins street sweeping after the last snowstorm. An approximate schedule will be published prior to the sweeping to inform residents.
Q. A tree is damaged/ leaning/ diseased etc.
